Cotton Marketing
Cotton
marketing season is due to start early next month with estimated
number of seed cotton buyers to be between 25 and 40 both
individual and companies. For companies or individual to qualify
as a seed cotton buyer must;
- visit
the areas from which they intend to buy cotton
- register
with the District Administrative Authorities
- be
the member of Tanzania Cotton Association
- possess
valid trading licence
- show
financial ability with the support from a reputable financial
institution
- register
all seed cotton buying agents with the Board
After
the official opening the seed cotton buying season, the companies
or individuals who qualified will be required the fulfill
all set rules and regulations to safeguard the quality of
cotton to be purchased. some of the rules to be adhered to
are;
- Buyer
must display the seed cotton buying prices in kiswahili
and english for each grade i.e. grade A and B
- use
jute or cotton clothes or any other material that will be
recommended by the Board to pack seed cotton
- display
grade standard boxes approved by the Board
- use
weighing scales that are properly serviced, inspected and
approved the weight and measurement department of ministry
responsible for industry and trade
- keep
all grade A cotton separate from grade B cotton
- must
ensure that all seed cotton purchased is properly graded
- buy
all seed cotton at the price displayed at the seed cotton
buying post.

marketing
Lint
consumption in Tanzania has increased from 20% in 2003 to
about 25 and 30% in 2007. This increase is attributed to by
the increased number of textile industries. However, the cotton
industry is still facing the challenge of how fast to increase
the consumption of cotton lint within the country to at least
50% so as to add value to the cotton and exported cotton goods
winch will fetch better prices at the international market.
Tanzania's
cotton is exported to various counties worldwide mostly Far
Eastern Countries. Countries which import cotton from Tanzania
include, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Taiwan,
India, Thailand, Philippines, Portugal, Bangladesh, Italy,
United Kingdom, China, Kenya, Rwanda, Hong kong, Singapore,
South Korea, Germany, Turkey, Spain and Republic of Congo.
